#407 ~ Ignite

Ignite (Midnight Fire, #1)Ignite by Kaitlyn Davis

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Book #1 - Midnight Fire Series

I know that this was given 5 stars from others, but for me it was a tad on the dull side ..... it could be of course that I was bedevilled by the star rating given by others that made me have high expectations, or I'm very hard to please .... read it and let me know.

I don't think I'll bother with the remainder of the series.

You can download a copy HERE, I featured it back in April 2013 as a Daily Selection and it is still available free at the time of writing this post.

Correct to:  He at blood for crying out loud.

Loc 2080:  to go find her friends.

I have mentioned it many times before, and yes I'm aware it is an North American affectation, but it should be:  go and find her friends.

Conjunctions please:  lets go and be evil.

Loc 2381:  gotten

Arghhhhh - deplorable use language.

Loc 2921:  Luke ran over, jumped at Diana and reach out his hands to strangle her...

Correct to:   Luke ran over, jumped at Diana and reached out his hands to strangle her...

** ** ** ** **

For some reason, GoodReads failed to pick up this book as a "Read", and therefore count it towards last year's total ... so lucky me, it is now going towards the 2014 target of 150 books.  I completely smashed through last year's target, but as we are due to move house and with college taking up quite a bit of time I decided to just keep to an easy enough figure.

Happy reading. and a very Happy New Year.

#406 ~ Midwyf: Liza

Midwyf: LizaMidwyf: Liza by Valerie Levy

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

(Book #1 in the Midwife Series)

On the plus side, this was a gruesome subject handled well, with a nice underlying story to it.  It appeared well researched and authoritative.

However, as a negative there were a whole host of oddly "hyphe-nated" words .... see, who annoying that is?  The hyphenation seemed to make little sense, being mid-line etc.,and I am wondering if this was some kind of formatting error - I will add a list of them in the Bug Bear/Errors section of the blog. From my own personal point of view I found it distracting, and therefore it lost a star, with an overall score of 3 stars.

I'm not sure that it grabbed me enough to invest in the whole series, but never say never.

Product Details:

This was one of my Daily Selection of Amazon picks back in April 2013, and as you can see from the date of this Review I am really behind on my To Read List.  You can get a copy HERE - Kindle file only listed a £2.62.

240 pages
Indie publisher
Historical Fiction genre
Adult - no overt sexual content

Errors/Bug Bears:

The bizarre hyphenation, that seemed to make no sense, below is a list of examples:

Page 12 - disap-peared
Page 20 - Occasion-ally
Page 26 - embroid-ery and noble-man
Page 28 - experien-ced
Page 39 - suffer-ing
Page 56 - glist-ened
Page 59 - enq-uired
Page 61 - dist-urbing
Page 102 - conseq-uences
Page 116 - con-sidered
Page 142 - accom-plish and com-manded
Page 159 - ab-domen
Page 176 - hap-pening
Page 177 - sup-pressed

As they were quite often at the beginning or mid-sentence, I could so no point to them, and can only assume that it's a formatting errors - it needs resolving in any event, as it lost this book 1 star from the rating.

Happy reading.

Daily Selection (more sporadic now though) on Amazon for Free Kindle Download

Yeah, I know, they've not exactly been coming thick and fast .... in my defence I've been so busy handling the whole family meltdown; my mother's a a bitch; book reviews; college/exams; wife; mother and domestic goddess thing that something had to give .... and that something was my daily selection.

So, as a little Christmas treat I thought I would pass on a recommendation from one of my GoodReads pals for this book - it's a fantasy meets sizzling sex contemporary read.  Book 1 is currently free as a Kindle Download HERE.

I will update the details for the Mad World Series in the "Review by Series" Page at the top of the blog.

#401 ~ Assured Destruction

Assured DestructionAssured Destruction by Michael F. Stewart

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

#Book 1 in the Assured Destruction Series

This book was recommended by me on my Blog as a Daily Selection of a free Kindle file on Amazon.

I wasn't totally sure when I started reading this novella that it would be of interest, but happily I'm pleased to report that quality of writing and an interesting story line do wonders to engage a reader - which is exactly what this book provides.

The main protagonist, teenage computer wizz kid, Jan Rose proved to be an all action, dive right on in and blow the consequences kind of girl with layers of depth and texture that create a fantastic character.

The plot moved along nicely and delight of delights no errors or bug bears were picked up. I'd like to commend the Author, Michael Stewart for providing such a good read of nice quality. One particular sentence, even though short, stood out as an example of what writers should be aiming for: 'Without lights, the dreariness shrouds me like a cold blanket'.

There was a certain sub-character that had my teeth on edge, and that was the boyfriend of Jan's mother ... even at the end of the book I still hadn't made up my mind about him.

I am happy to say that this was the first book in a series, and I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next book "Script Kiddie", but for the time being for this book it's a big 5 stars from me.

Product Details

You can obtain a copy of the Kindle download HERE, and at the time of writing I'm delighted to advise that it's still available free (the usual listed price is £6.01).

Genre:            Fiction, Contemporary, Crime, Suspense

My Daily (not quite) Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Okay, I'm sorry .... I know that the selections have been nothing like daily recently, but I thought I would share this one with you, whilst it's on free download HERE.  This is Book #1 in the Series, and Book #2 has now been released, which is called Script Kiddie.

Now for the description bit for this book:

You can learn a lot about someone looking through their hard drive ...

Sixteen-year-old Jan Rose knows that nothing is ever truly deleted. At least, not from the hard drives she scours to create the online identities she calls the Shadownet.

Hobby? Art form? Sad, pathetic plea to garner friendship, even virtually? Sure, Jan is guilty on all counts. Maybe she’s even addicted to it. It’s an exploration. Everyone has something to hide. The Shadownet’s hard drives are Jan’s secrets. They're stolen from her family’s computer recycling business Assured Destruction. If the police found out, Jan’s family would lose its livelihood.

When the real people behind Shadownet’s hard drives endure vicious cyber attacks, Jan realizes she is responsible. She doesn’t know who is targeting these people or why, but as her life collapses Jan must use all her tech savvy to bring the perpetrators to justice before she becomes the next victim.

Support the Author, Michael Stewart and download a copy now.

Apologies for the scrappy nature of this post, but I'm busy trying to do my homework and work on the plan for my first Controlled Assessment.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

If in doubt, revert to type .... yep, an Historical Romance for today's selection.

Very much a shot in the dark, as it's a New Release; there are no Reviews; and I have never read this Author before:

Samantha Randall is a spirited young English beauty whose impetuosity puts her in a very compromising situation and the only thing that can salvage her reputation is marriage to Christopher Welles, a man she barely knows. As soon as the vows are spoken, her new husband whisks her off to his ship and they sail the following morning for America, to Christopher's home in the Spanish held Territory of West Florida. Though the voyage was uneventful, the same cannot be said for the newly-weds who are in constant conflict with each other - their fragile relationship, which they struggle to build, is forever being tested by misunderstandings and outside interference. Once settled in Christopher's home on the northern coast of Florida, they become closer and eventually fall in love - yet there are still challenges to come that will threaten to tear their world apart, some from outside forces beyond their control, others closer at hand.
With misfortune constantly overshadowing their lives, how will Christopher and Samantha - whose love was born of indiscretion and nurtured by enduring passion - be able to triumph over adversity and recapture the happiness that was so heartlessly taken from them?

I've taken a chance and downloaded it, if you would like to pick up a copy whilst it's free click HERE.

I haven't checked on Amazon for a few days, and was delighted to note that my Reviewer Status has risen (or dropped depending on which way one looks at it) to the late 2,000's .......... that made me very happy! I'm still heading in the right direction, it just takes longer the higher up the list you get.

There should be a couple of Reviews uploaded later on today, I've just finished reading a 3 Book Set, and also a short book of prose.

Happy reading for now peeps.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

The synopsis appealed to me .... who wouldn't want to find out what made Peter Pan tick?

Peter’s side of the story at last!

Mid-Summer Night’s Eve 1706
Quivering with fear and rage, a six-year-old Peter crouches among the multi-coloured blooms and exotic scents at the bottom of his family’s enormous garden. He is determined to run away. Bored with her distinguished but dull companions, the exquisitely beautiful but rashly daring Fairie, Tinkerbell, observes him. For mischief’s sake, or so she thinks, she shows herself and shockingly initiates a conversation with ‘this perfectly scrumptious little human being’. Soon Peter’s life is changed forever, with inter-dimensional repercussions that ring down the centuries.

From the Fairies’ home dimension and the Neverland, a realm as cosy and boundless as a child’s imagination, to London’s filthy streets and burning skies, the adventures of the boy who wouldn’t grow up are fully told. Learn about Peter’s official adoption by the Fairies and his tempestuous, enduring relationship with Tinkerbell. Read the truth about where he found the Lost Boys and the surprise identity of his deadliest enemy. Find out what made Captain Hook tick, and discover the nature of Peter’s romantic attachments to Wendy and her progeny. His combat service with the Royal Air Force in World War Two is revealed for the first time, as is a scandal that shook two dimensions and still hides a deep secret in yet another.

JM Barrie assigned the rights of ‘Peter Pan’ to Great Ormond Street Hospital for children. Many of those rights have now expired, but the desire to help GOSH lives on with Peter’s autobiography and 50% of the profits from this book will be donated to that cause.

Editor’s Note:
Conventional publishers hate what cannot be categorized. Is this action–adventure? Romantic fiction, or fantasy? True autobiography, or military history? What if it is all those things? I don’t know myself, but thanks to Amazon Kindle, Peter’s real story can now be brought before the public.
He first came to me for advice and assistance 30 years ago, mostly because I’d been an American paratrooper in my youth and had had a near-death experience in Vietnam. My published books are all based on myth and legend or the supernatural. He guessed rightly that I was not fully part of one world or the other, and chose me to act for him as editor of his memoirs. Fearing both the mad house and the talk show circuit, Peter was understandably shy of publicity. Back then, he decided against publication but has finally changed his mind.

I would like to thank Jane Fuller and Kate Bevan for helping me prepare the manuscript for publication because, despite what Peter thinks, I’m no great shakes as an editor.

Above all, Peter’s multi-dimensional life has been one of wonder and the mysteries of existence. His story is told with honesty and true feeling. We have altered nothing, apart from the correction of spelling and modernising some archaic slang for clarity.

Peter insists that it is not his intention to debunk Sir James Barrie’s work. Nor does he fear this autobiography will spoil anyone’s enjoyment of it. There may, however, be people who wish to read of the true events that gave birth to the classic book and stage play. Peter Pan hopes his readers will enjoy and benefit from the lessons of his long and extraordinary life.

I couldn't hit the button for this one, which is HERE, just in case I missed it later on - although it will be a very long time until I can get around to reading it, as my WTR list is getting longer by the day with the arrival of the postman.

Happy reading, and I hope you enjoy this one.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Well, I say daily selection ....... that's a bit of a joke recently .... it should probably be "my sometimes daily, but more often that not a few times of a week selection".

Anyhoo, here's the selection for today - an Antipodean romance for a Sunday by the fire:

In 1854, the Australia goldfields swirl with the heated danger and betrayal of the Eureka Stockade rebellion. At the center of this maelstrom is Melanie O'Dea, a woman with a price on her head and the authorities on her heels. Melanie accepts aid from a neighbor, The Honorable Michael Guilford, but this places her in even more peril. After he seduces her and callously discards her, Melanie is left to fend for herself. Can she endure such treachery and survive the sweeping winds of uncertainty?

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Well, this one seems a little different, so I thought I would give it a go, especially as we are all a little addicted to technology these days:

Would you trust technology with your life?

Marin Massee is a computer programmer who prefers technology to people. People have let her down in the past. Technology has not. While designing a database and analysis system for a Pittsburgh hospital, she uses proprietary medical research to complete her pet project – a medical device that will change how humankind views terminal illness, disease, and aging. That is, if she ever tells anyone about it.

Dr. Patrick Stiles, a neurosurgeon, discovers Marin’s impropriety and forces her to deal with the consequences of her actions. Marin’s solitary life is turned upside down. And when the blueprints for her device are stolen, and the device brought to market, Marin’s worst fears are realized. For when the public begins trusting technology with their lives, everything goes wrong . . .

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Mystery > Crime > Thriller > Suspense
*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Life is way too busy at the moment, and so it's not so much Daily Picks as every few days ........ I thought I would go a bit off piste this time and choose a Suspense.

With quite a few 4 and 5 star reviews, this seems to fit the bill:

When Peter Nicolson, a reporter with the Edinburgh Evening News, is almost killed by a gang leader out to make his mark, the only way to save his life is through a double kidney transplant. One of the first people in the world to be treated with the new genetic wonder drug 'SP-X4', Peter makes a remarkable
recovery. Yet as he recovers, his personality begins to change, and he discovers that he can see visions of unsolved killings committed by a murderer that no one has ever caught. Peter sets out to solve the murders, to track down the killer, and find out the truth behind the visions that he sees.

As time progresses, and as Peter uncovers a trail of death that stretches across the United Kingdom and Europe, the makers of 'SP-X4' watch his actions from afar, anxious that he will uncover the incredible truth behind their new drug treatment, and conspiring to make sure he does not succeed in revealing it to the world.

'Haunted From Within' is also the story of seven separate lives: readers will follow each character as the plot develops and their lives intersect, culminating in a surprise ending that few will predict.

Please beware: this book is based on fact: a medical phenomena that few understand and most are unaware of. At first, it may seem hard to believe. This is after all, just a story, a fast-paced thriller written to entertain you...but it will leave you wondering and talking about the definition of life' itself. Enjoy!

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

This is only a short, and it's described as erotic romance, I'm not sure just how erotic though - seems an ideal selection as a little handy something to read on a commute, or better still cozied up by the fire on an early Autumn morning:

What happens when a struggling actress and a grieving widower come together in a night of unbridled debauchery orchestrated by a bored and machinating rake? With the devil in charge...there will be hell to pay!

She’s a lonely lady down on her luck... Phoebe Scott, alias Kitty Willis, is a struggling Covent Garden actress with a bruised heart and a closely guarded secret.

He’s steadfast and eminently respectable.. Sir Edward Chambers, Ned to his intimates, is guilt-ridden over his beloved wife’s death and avowed to live out a rustic and mundane life … of celibacy.

With the devil in charge — there will surely be hell to pay. Devil in disguise, Viscount Ludovic DeVere, is determined to return his best friend, Ned, to the land of the living. His meddling machinations result in a night of mind blowing passion after which “dull dog Ned” awakes to find himself in the King of England’s bed!

Even though I have no idea when I will get to this one, I've queued it up on Baby (for those that don't know that's my Kindle Fire's pet name).  If you want to take advantage whilst it's a free download too, click HERE.

As this is part of a series I will add the details on the Review by Series Page.

Up early this morning, as I have mountain of reading to get through, I'm Alpha reading a novel by an Author that has been featured on here before as a DSOA, but not sure if I am allowed to say their name, so I will be quiet (big surprise to my friends I'm sure, most of them would place large bets that is something I am simply not able to do!).

The Lord of Sod put in an appearance too this morning, I was just well on the way to dictating notes on the novel as I read it, and the battery ran out.  We have every size of battery going in large quantities (my children go through enough to run a small country's electrical needs, so there are always loads), but just not AAA - for the love of Mike .......... I just need one.

I received a copy from Anne Eliot yesterday of her Novel, Unmaking Hunter Kennedy.  It was beautifully wrapped with a love note and on the inside cover (which has a really groovy patten on it) she wrote a lovely note to me - thanks Anne.  I'm looking forward to digging my way down to that one.

Talking of digging my way down, I've got so many paper books lined up to read, that I've had to start a list.  I haven't even got to the ebooks that have been sent in either.  I am a certain not going to start to add in my DSOA's from here ... it would be too frightening a prospect - what I really need to do is brake a leg or three and need bed rest so I can read all day and most of the night to catch up - I think there are well over 100 piling up.

Right, typing isn't going to get the reading done.

Toodleooh all.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Today's pick is a time travel novel by Indie Writer Mark Foyer - who is new to me.

I thought I would give it a go, but first off "Traveler"?  Is that North American spelling for Traveller?

Any hoo, miss picky pants put to one side, here's the synopsis:

Samantha lost the love of her life during the Civil War. The man she loved and was promised to, leaves their home on Deer Isle, Maine and heads off to fight the injustice of slavery. After two years of witnessing the harsh realities of the Civil War, Harlin's letters to Samantha and his family abruptly stop. Almost a year later when his tour of duty should be finished, he hasn't returned, and no one knows what happened to him. Samantha has lost almost all hope of ever seeing Harlin again.

Almost one hundred and forty eight years later, Alan Long experiences a life changing event. His first trip to Stonington on Deer Isle Maine ends tragically; but now just one month later his second trip to the island offers him an almost unbelievable opportunity.

Quite by accident, Alan finds himself transported back in time to 1864 where he meets Samantha. Alan is sure he has gone crazy, time travel is just not possible and yet he finds himself with the ability to travel back and forth from his time to hers. As they get to know each other, Alan learns of her situation and vows to do what he can to help her. Surely the technology of his time can shed a light on the darkness from her time.

Alan sets out on an unlikely journey to uncover what happened to Harlin using technology Samantha could never be told about. In a series of twists and turns he develops new friendships on this small island paradise. Two men twice his age cross his path and the three unite together to try and change an outcome that should never have occurred.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

I was fairly excited to find this amongst the New Releases, as I'm loving a bit of Norman Conquest following our family trip to Herstmonceux Castle last month:

England, 1069.

The nation is still recovering from the Norman invasion three years earlier - and adjusting to life under its sometimes brutal new rulers.

A young girl trembles in the shadows of what was once her home.

Avis is homeless and penniless, and with no family left alive she is forced to become a ward of Richard, the Norman lord who has taken her home.

But when King William decrees that Norman lords must marry Anglo-Saxon women Avis must make a terrible choice.

Either marry the repulsive Richard or take a else chance on another Norman, Melville, a man she has never met.

Soon she realises that survival in a time of turmoil and war depends of putting aide the prejudices of the past

And if she can do so, kingdoms and hearts can still be among her 'Conquests'.

A handful of Reviews, averaging at 4 stars, you can download it (for free at the moment) HERE.

Something really rather fabulous appeared in my Inbox the other day, a never before read manuscript from an author that has been featured on this blog before ... I have a copy of their new book to undertake my role of Alpha Reader ...... I'm currently having to be tied down with the excitement of it all!

I'm just in the process of finishing off Patrick Easter's book, Watermen, and I will then start to cast my beady eye over it.  The reason I am so excited is because I am positively encouraged in the role of Alpha Reader to question and pick up anything before it goes to press.  It's a huge honour to be asked, and I am so grateful to be given this chance - I can't say who the book is written by yet, but watch this space for more news.

Happy reading.

Hugs, with a big smile on my face

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

I thought I'd mix it up a bit today .... after all, romance is everybody's cup of tea ..... and have gone for a Dystopian Fantasy/Fairy Tale:

A gateway has opened to the land of Faerie. Can one girl close the portal in time to protect her world from the destructive powers of darkness?

Set two hundred years after the world has been destroyed by a terrifying faerie invasion, Fayth Blackman is busy studying for her final exams. She has no idea that a gateway has opened to the land of Faerie and that dark haunting creatures are filtering through into her own world. But then tragedy strikes and her life turns upside down. She finds out that she is the descendent of a powerful faerie, and that the key to closing the gateway is in her blood. She must embark on a dangerous quest to find the Bell Stone, and with it stop the world from being destroyed once more. But can she make it in time?

Follow Fayth on her quest for the Bell Stone in 'Gateway to Faerie.'

As it's a New Release there are only 3 Reviews, but they are all 5 star - normally I would be a bit suspicious about that few being 5 star, but I've checked out here other work (Vampiric Series) and they are pretty much 4.5 to 5 star), so I think we're safe.

This one isn't overly long, probably more a Novella, but what the hey it's on free download HERE.

My reading rate has thankfully picked up since Brat when back to School, and she's got so much Prep when she gets home that it's fairly quiet, so plenty of reading time for me.

Hope you all have a great day, and happy reading.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Sunday mornings is all about romance and relaxation ... so, how could I ignore this bare chested beauty?  The girls quite pretty too:

Wealthy heiress Rosalie Ambermere doesn't know why Gideon Reed sits scowling in her sitting room. Or why she finds him so appealing. She'd envisioned her heart falling to a serene gentleman, not to this unpolished, brooding man. And yet she finds Mr. Reed absurdly attractive. Surely her craving for his touch is due to the strange powder she recently inherited from her rakehell cousin. When Gideon offers to help her find a way to dispose of the aphrodisiac, she agrees. Best to be rid of the powder and her attraction to the man as soon as possible.

Hired as a keeper, former detective Gideon must follow his oversexed client Walter everywhere, including into lovely ladies' homes. Reed suspects Miss Ambermere is just another eager chapter in Walter's endless diary of bedroom conquests. Another hedonistic woman spoiled by inherited wealth, until he learns there's another draw for Walter -- the powder that could create disaster in the idiot's hands. He soon understands there is more to the alluring Miss Ambermere than meets the eye; perhaps enough to tempt even his disillusioned heart. Gideon must work with Rosalie to safely dispose of the powder without falling prey to the dangerous effects of pure chemistry.

Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Brief scenes of male/male sex and an orgy. It is hotter than most titles by Kate Rothwell.

I've downloaded my copy of this Book, which is Number 83 on the Amazon Best Seller List, although it's anybody's guess if it's okay.  Click HERE to get a copy.

After we've finished doing some DIY stuff this morning, I should get down to one of my DSOA's from March, which so far is a vast improvement on the Black Sam fiasco.

Happy reading.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

I am taking a bit of a chance on this one today, it has 5 stars .... but only 1 review ..... and I'm never certain if that is a fix up (obviously if it isn't I apologise).  What the heck it's an interesting synopsis:

“She who wields the mark is the barrier between man and monster. She is the daughter of gods, the mother of man, protector of all. Vigilati Usque Ad Mortem”

All Isla Macallen wanted was a simple existence on her little Scottish island, free from her mother’s insanity and the prying eyes of neighbors. What she got was embroiled in a war for the souls of mankind. A war of good versus evil, of witches versus demons, and Isla learns that she alone can end it.

Dr. Jeremiah Rousseau was a self-proclaimed nomad, traveling the world researching paranormal phenomena. He doesn’t expect his research to lead him to Scotland, and to the woman who will turn his world upside down.

Together with a facetious shapeshifting animal spirit guide, Jeremiah and Isla discover that she is part of an ancient bloodline bred to protect the gateways between the human world and the spirit world, to keep evil demons from destroying them. They must find the key to defeating Alastore, the demon king, and closing the gate before Samhain, when the veil between the worlds is lifted. As the war for their souls wages around them, Isla and Jeremiah will risk it all for love—a love neither had ever thought possible.

It has North American spelling (sorry about that), but what the heck I'm giving it a go and adding it to my WTR pile (Want to Read) - which is always the best thing to do with the freebies, as it's never certain they hang around, so at least this way I secure it for naught.  I digress, click HERE to get your copy.

I am so desperately far behind with my reading, and by default reviewing ... still working away at March, with a book case of books received from Authors/Publishers and even more ebooks waiting in line from them, as well as my own DSOA's.  Still, the brat is back at school and today is a free day to read, read, read ... hopefully, I will have got the Pirate read I'm working on out of the way!

Have a good one peeps.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Another stunning cover first drew me in this morning, and then it looked interesting anyway, so I decided to make it today's pick:

Time is all we have; it flows – it cannot stop.

Jayne wakes up in hospital following a terrible accident, which changes her life as she knew it. While struggling to recover, she is visited by a mysterious woman who offers her a gift. To the girl’s astonishment, she finds herself on a journey, on both the physical and mental plane. It brings her to the mystical realm of Entyre, where life is very different and power lies with the creatures of the deep. While the threads of time keep flowing, Jayne must decide what is real, who to trust, and regain her inner strength in order to find herself and her true destiny.

A bit different, and it has 5 star reviews .... only two of them though!.

If you fancy giving this one a go, it's not too long at 229 pages (Book 1 of a Series), then click HERE.

Happy reading.

*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Form an orderly queue here ladies ........ behind me ........ if you really wouldn't mind being chained up to this hulking great brute of a Hero.

Apparently, it has a note advising that it's "Explicit" - guaranteed therefore to get me downloading it:

A sexy pair of scoundrels run from the law--shackled together by an unbreakable iron chain.

Nicholas Brogan is an ex-pirate with years of sin branded on his soul. Samantha Delafield is a high-born lady turned devious thief. Captured by His Majesty's marshals, the two are on their way to the gallows until they stage a daring escape and run for their lives--shackled together by an iron chain that quickly proves unbreakable.

Forced to work together to survive, the outlaws find themselves locked in a battle of fierce wills and fiery passions. From a remote forest in Staffordshire to a secret hideout in London's most elegant square, they must learn to trust one another as they face old enemies, dark secrets... and discover a love more priceless than any gem they've ever stolen.

Originally published under the title "Heart Runs Free", with 5 Stars on Amazon, get your copy HERE.  Oh, and by the way, it's not a silly short Novella, this is a 352 book of (hopefully) good old fashioned historical bodice ripper.

I should get a lot of time to catch up on the WTR pile, as I have to lurk around the hospital waiting room waiting for Number One Son to have his operation.

Happy reading.

Indie Writer (Self-published)
*Introducing a New Author to the Blog*

Well, just in case you don't know, the other thing (apart from Historical Romance) I can resist is Steampunk .... I am eternally fascinated!

So I was delighted to see this little gem kicking around in the Science Fiction section for free Download:

London, 1889. Victoria is Queen. Charles Darwin’s son is Prime Minister. And steam is the power that runs the world.

At 17, Claire Trevelyan, daughter of Viscount St. Ives, was expected to do nothing more than pour an elegant cup of tea, sew a fine seam, and catch a rich husband. Unfortunately, Claire’s talents lie not in the ballroom, but in the chemistry lab, where things have a regrettable habit of blowing up. When her father gambles the estate on the combustion engine and loses, Claire finds herself down and out on the mean streets of London. But being a young woman of resources and intellect, she turns fortune on its head. It’s not long before a new leader rises in the underworld, known only as the Lady of Devices.

When she meets Andrew Malvern, a member of the Royal Society of Engineers, she realizes her talents may encompass more than the invention of explosive devices. They may help her realize her dreams and his . . . if they can both stay alive long enough to see that sometimes the closest friendships can trigger the greatest betrayals . . .

I couldn't hit the "one click" button quick enough.  Admittedly, I haven't spent any time reading the reviews, but it's showing 4.5 stars, so it can't be all bad.

Click HERE to get your hands on a copy whilst it's free, because ......... well, it's FREE.  Even for no other reason that it's a wonderful cover!

I forgot to mention the other day that Roy Huff has released the second in the Everville Series: The City of Worms.  Whilst I think I missed the free download date, it's available on Kindle at the moment of 77p ... which is a bargain, so why not check it out HERE.

Happy reading.
