#451 - Bitten ~ Anna Wolfe

Bitten (The First Book of Bitten by Anna Wolfe

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Sorry, not for me, I didn't even manage to make it past the first chapter.

It gave the impression of a poorly written fan fiction, and left me colder than a witch's backdoor step.

My reading time is precious recently, and it failed to inspire.

The Good ... the bad ... and the ugly

Failing to inspire the use of reading time as it did, I can't comment.

Happy reading.

#433 ~ The Kingdom of Tamarack

The Kingdom of TamarackThe Kingdom of Tamarack by Ross Turner

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Please bear in mind if you read the following, the fact that I have marked this as 1 star and DNF (Did Not Finish) should not be a damming indictment of this particular authors ability.

I gave it a go, but quickly decided that it just wan't going to ding my dong. I couldn't get a clear sense of the author's voice, and it was a little confusing. Most definitely an example of telling, not showing.

I can't even say that there were huge mistakes in grammar. It wasn't riddled with typos, there didn't even seem to be many punctuation errors (except Loc 31 and the incorrect use of a comma splice) - it just wasn't for me.

I have a whole mountain of books, in Kindle and of the old-fashioned book variety, to keep me going for well over a year; more are joining the book-lift queue to join that mountain, so I just thought "thank you, but I will give this a miss".

Please give the thing a try, you might love it - what is one reader's turn off is sure to be just the thing for a.n.other.

#391 ~ Eighth Sea

The Eighth SeaThe Eighth Sea by Nancy Sprowell Geise

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I got as a free Kindle download - July 2013, however it's currently listed at £4.66.  374 pages in length.

Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have had to put this down as a D.N.F. (Did Not Finish).

All was well reasonably well and good until our Leading Lady reached the shores of England ... and then the writing rapidly went down hill.

It seemed all the time the Author was writing about the West Indies, she was perhaps on home turf, or somewhere close to it, and could write with a fair amount of authority and interest. However, travelling across the Ocean Blue was where her knowledge badly let her down.

In fact, I would say that it was so bad, it was actually Laugh out Loud funny in places ... but, my reading time is precious - I finally called time at 43%.

My best advice for this author is to stick to what you know, or do an awful lot of research to enable an authentic historical novel which is set in England. The odd brush up on grammar and spelling wouldn't go amiss either .... sorry!

So for this Author, who was way above her head writing an English Historical Romance ..... 1 star is the best that I can do as there is no DNF button on Amazon or Good Reads.

If you are still interested in reading this to judge for yourself, then click HERE, although be warned it comes with a hefty price tag for what you get.

Hugs

Kay
