Summary/thoughts:

Even though this is Book 4 in the Series, without a doubt it can still be considered a standalone read.

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it, and it had all the essential elements.

The plot was well paced, the characters interesting, honest and believable.  What was nice to see was how well the Author wrote not just about historical detail, but human frailty in all its good and ugly forms.

I will certain seek out the remainder of this series.

Rating:

4 star read

Highly recommended by me if you want characters you can engage with, and a love story to warm your heart.

Errors/Bug Bears:

A few tiny errors, but my note book is not to hand, and it's nearly midnight .... so I will edit this later with the details.

Other than that Kudos to Ms Domning for such a quality piece of work.

My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Romance > Historical Romance > Medieval

I thought we would step back at bit to some nice Medieval love today ... although it's another unpromising cover, it's had two reasonable reviews:

Haunted by memories of the 7th Crusade, Warin de Taillur vows to lay down his sword and embrace the monastic life. But first, rescuing an urchin abandoned by a French roadside will be the initial step in his absolution. When he discovers the urchin is a young noble woman in need of protection, against his better judgment he agrees to return her home to England. Love for her soon overwhelms him but it’s a love he must hold at bay for he has nothing to offer her other than a scarred heart.

Driven from her home, Caperun Keep, by a deceitful aunt, Alyna Caperun must place her trust in the brooding Crusader who rescues her. As the only means to recover her castle and at the king’s command, she consents to marrying the knight, Warin de Taillur, even though she knows he could never love her for anything other than the lands and castle she brings to the marriage. Knows too, he battles demons not even she can fathom.

Will they find love? Or will Warin’s past destroy any chance they have of finding happiness together?

What the heck .... it's free so we could give it a go ..... click HERE for the free download.

On Amazon today my rating has gone up a bit to 6,041 (>).  I suppose that I'm still heading in the right direction, but it does feel like an uphill struggle.  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

My Selection of Freebie Kindle Download at Amazon

While Angels Slept ~ Kathryn Le Veque *NEW AUTHOR

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Historical > Romance

A complete turn in direction for today with a 12th Century Historical Romance.
As usual you can find it quickly over at Amazon by clicking the large title just above the cover photograph, or click HERE.

I have to admit that it wasn't my first choice, I had picked out something else, but blow me down it had stopped being listed as a freebie overnight!  I know that I bang on about this, but it just shows that there seems very little rhyme or reason behind how long they stay listed as freebies, so get 'em whilst they're hot!

This morning that my Amazon Reviewer status has dropped a little to 9,939.  As always thank you to anyone that has taken the time to leave positive feedback over there for me, it is very much appreciated..

I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

My Daily Selection for Freebie Kindle Download

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Historical

An unusual choice for me today this one ..... I was attracted to the title last night, as I've been missing the BBC Series "Midwives" .... this had had quite a few very good reviews, and is based in 14th century rather than my usual Regency period of choice.  It's Historical Fiction, but I'm not sure if there is any element of romance.

Don't forget I'm all about extending reading horizons this year!

As usual you can find it quickly over at Amazon by clicking the large title just above the cover photograph, or click HERE

This morning that my Amazon Reviewer status has improved only a tiny bit to 12,177 (making big gains is getting harder the further up the rankings I go).

#307 (#25 of 2013) The Beauty Bride (The Jewels of Kinfairlie) ~ Claire Dela Croix *NEW AUTHOR

Description:

More cherished than gold are the Jewels of Kinfairlie, and only the worthiest may fight for their love...The Laird of Kinfairlie has unmarried sisters, each a gem in her own right. And he has no choice but to see them all wed in haste.

Lady Madeline’s heart is not for sale...especially not to a notorious outlaw like Rhys FitzHenry. Yet Madeline’s hand has been sold, to none other than this battle-weary warrior with a price on his head. A more dutiful maiden might cede to the Laird’s command and meekly accept her fate, but Madeline has never been obedient. She decides to run away, though she never dreams that Rhys will pursue her. She does not expect this taciturn man to woo her with fanciful stories, much less that each of his enthralling tales will reveal a scar upon his shielded soul. She never imagines that a man like Rhys could imperil her own heart while revealing so little of his own feelings. When Rhys’s past threatens his future, Madeline takes a leap of faith. She dares to believe him innocent
— and risks her own life to pursue a passion more priceless than the rarest gem.

Product Details:

This is another one that I managed to get as a Freebie Kindle Download before Christmas.

At the time of writing this post, it is currently showing as £2.99 (but has in fact been priced at a much higher price than that in the past).

400 pages long.

Summary:

Well, this was yet another freebie Kindle Download that worked really rather well.

I was out of my comfort zone a little as this was based earlier than my usual Georgian era.

There was also the surprising addition of a little fairy jiggery-pokery written in.

I found it to be very lyrically written, and even the inclusion of the fairy seemed to work.  In fact, I would love to have heard more of the mischief she could unleash.

The characters were believable and worth investing in, and I look forward to adding the others in the series to my wish list, and would even be prepared to pay for them.

This is not a book that I would have felt cheated if I'd actually paid good money for it rather than gathering it into my reading fold as a freebie, and it earner it's 4 stars well.

#301 (#19 of 2013) - If Love Dares Enough (The Montbryce Legacy) ~ Anna Markland *NEW AUTHOR

Description:

Violence arouses Hugh.
He avoids women ... but he cannot turn a blind eye to the abuse Devona suffers at the hands of her husband, even at the risk of angering his King.

Product Description:

I got this from Kindle as a freebie.  At time of writing this post it is £1.91.

Apparently, this is the third book in the series.  At 182 pages I would consider it a Novella.

Book 1 - Conquering Passion
Book 2 - A Man of Value
Book 3 - If Love Dares Enough
Book 4 - Passion in the Blood

There is also a Montbryce Next Generation, and the author has written other pieces of fiction, which as far as I can work out are based on the Medieval.

* * * *

Summary:

Although this book is way outside my usual time period, I have to admit that I loved it.

In fact it's fair to say that I couldn't actually put it down.

Fabulous well paced story, with characters that you could invest in and a believable villain.

Amazon only go up to 5 stars, but I would be happy to give this a 5+ star rating.  I paid nothing for this and feel blessed to be introduced to this author, and can't wait to read more.

If you read anything this year, have a go at this series of books.
