My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Fantasy > Epic
*Introducing a New Author to the Blog

I need to hurry with the post as the new TV adaptation of The Mill is about to start of Channel 4, and I don't want to miss a thing from it.

So, here is today's selection, which looks interesting, and has some good reviews.

Every five hundred years the phoenix dies.

Samiya, born-into-shadow, is soon to battle her born-into-light brother. Abandoned by their parents, neither wishes to play the preordained role of beast and hero. When their loved ones are taken hostage, they are forced to follow the path laid out in myth, culminating in a battle first fought six thousand years ago in ancient Cairo. A mythic clash where one defeats the other and both become gods.

To break free from their fates, Samiya and her brother must unravel a mystery twisted by cults, greed, and magic. But myth is a powerful force and failure to live up to it may not only destroy their lives but the lives of the ones they love most.

When the phoenix dies, the only certainty is flames.

Click HERE to download a copy of this début novel, which is currently listed for free.

My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Fantasy > Epic
Indie Writer (Self-published)

I think I might be taking a risk with this Indie Writer .... why?  Well, the description sounds okay; the reviews (22 of them so far) are most good, but short.  The more in-depth hint that the English isn't as good as could be expected.

After, according to one of my friends, fairly scathing review on Scandal of Love, I was a bit hesitant to read something again that would cause my bile to rise.  Ever positive, we will focus on the short reviews - who advise it's good - and devil take the hindmost.

Still the story goes like this:

The night Claire Tanith’s small village is attacked, her mother sends her alone into the cursed forest, the one she’d been forbidden to enter all her life with these mysterious words: ‘They will protect you.’

On the run from her attackers, she soon finds the forest is not as abandoned as she’d once thought.

Beautiful and elegant, the elves seem to be everything the legends said they would be. But legends sometimes forget the true history of things and Claire’s eyes are soon opened to a world she never knew. One that has been kept from her for most of her life. All Claire wants to do is return home and start looking for her mother, the only family she ever had. But the elves have different plans. The mysterious mark that appeared on her arm isn’t a curse, at least not to them anyway, and before she knows it, she is whisked away on a mission she never agreed to, unless they help her in return.

Now she is stuck on an adventure with the perverted elf, Aeron, and one with an attitude, Farron. But there is more to this adventure than she’d ever hoped for.

After, according to one of my friends, fairly scathing review on Scandal of Love, I was a bit hesitant to read something again that would cause my bile to rise.  Ever positive, we will focus on the short reviews - who advise it's good - and devil take the hindmost.

So if you fancy giving it a go click HERE.

On Amazon today my rating is (>) to 5,590.  I suppose that I'm still heading in the right direction, but it does feel like an uphill struggle.  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

#347 - Everville: The First Pillar

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Fantasy > Epic
Indie Writer (Self-published)

Description:

Owen Sage is the emblematic college freshman at Easton Falls University. With all the worries about his first year in college, he was not prepared for what would happen next. His way of life was flipped upside down when he mysteriously crossed into another dimension, into the beautiful land of Everville. His excitement was abruptly halted when he discovered that there was a darkness forged against both the natural world, which he knew well, and the new land which he discovered, Everville. He must devise a plan to save both worlds while joining forces with the race of Fron and The Keepers, whom both harbor hidden secrets he must learn in order to gain power over the evil that dwells in The Other In Between.

With a race against time to save both worlds, his short time at Easton Falls did not quite prepare him for the evil, dark forces he must fight in order to conquer The Other In Between.

Product Details:

The Author, Roy, very kindly let me have a copy of his book for review as a Kindle download.

At the time of writing this post, it is available as a free download HERE. Normally it is listed as £12.00, which is a little rich for some.

Summary:

I believe that this may well be Roy's debut novel, and it's the first in a series based on the fantasy land of Everville.

I quite liked the concept actually, of the Land In Between, which was surrounded by other fantasy lands.  The contract of evil represented by "them" and good represented by The Keepers of the various Pillars.

At times I found it a little over descriptive, and there were some sentence construction and chapter bridging problems.  In particular I hated the beginning of Chapter 8.  I did like the unexpected twist of a villain in the present helping "them" (I didn't see that coming).

An editing firm is given credit on the Amazon page, but I can't say if that was in regard to actual editing or just formatting of the ebook.  My personal view would be that it was probably just in respect of the formatting ..... I am willing to be corrected if I'm wrong though.

Overall, the issues that I had with the book a good editor could have made a distinct difference.  I did find myself itching to reach for my highlighter and red pen and edit the work to gain a better flow.  It does take courage to put your work out there, and massive to Kudos to Roy for this reasonable first novel, in what could turn about to really quite an interesting series.

I enjoyed it enough to be keen to read future offerings by Roy to see what goes down, and if Everville will ultimately be delivered from the evil that "them" are determined to spread.

Rating:

3 stars from me I think, but with good editing it would probably have made 3.5 stars.  For all the Fantasy fans out there, give it a go.

My Notes of Errors/Bug Bears:

There really weren't many, but the things that bothered me in particular:

I had to re-read Chapter 8 as some of it didn't flow well.

58% "His eyes were fixated ...." - fixed would have been better, and "fixated" was used a few times - personally, I felt it was overkill.

"Standing on all four legs, they must have been at least 6 feet tall ....".  I think this may be a gender thing, I checked it with male and females, and all the females had the same reaction - i.e. they would still have been 6 feet tall standing on 1 or 3 legs, unless they were standing on their hind legs, in which case they would be taller.  The males saw nothing wrong with the sentence - bizarre.

60% "Carwyn squeezed the mountain dweller called Ewan" - really? I had to re-read the paragraph again to make sense of it .... it might just have been me though.

83% Mention is made by Owen of "my parents house" - I went back and check the beginning and it mentioned that it was just Owen and his Mother .... am I being over picky?

Given that it was a reasonably long novel, that wasn't a long list.

I am super excited to feature this one by Roy Huff, one of my buddies over at Good Reads.  It's available only for a limited time as a free download (until 16th May), so snap it up.  It's currently Number 33 in the UK Amazon Kindle Store.  I'm really looking forward to reading it myself, and it's been brought forward in my review list to the next one.

I love the cover image, and can't wait to get going.

You can find it available as a free download HERE on UK Amazon and HERE on Amazon.com.

Get me ..... my rating is down to 7,213 today (>).  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Horror > Fantasy > Epic
Indie Writer (Self-published)

I found this one "lurking" in the Horror section, but in actual fact when I decided upon it for my selection, it was listed as Fantasy Epic.  There are actually a few more of them in the series (it seems like it's serialised chapters rather than short stories from this Indie Writer.  Unfortunately, Amazon haven't got any details on him.  If anyone has any knowledge please get in touch.

The Island (Fallen Earth) is available as a free download HERE, with well over 150 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth ) Part 2 as a free download HERE, just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth ) Part 3 as a free download HERE, just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4.5 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth) Part 4 - annoying now available as a free download HERE, but I purchased it anyway  - listed at 65p - just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth) Final Chapters - again not free (listed at 65p), but it HERE - it would be hugely annoying to have a missing finale. Over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

I seriously, hope it is going to be well worth the £1.30 I've forked out!!  As far as the freebie downloads are concerned, I am fed up with saying that they are available free at the time of my post, and I cannot guarantee that they will stay that way .... so I'm not going to say it again.

The good news just keeps on coming now.  I received another book for Review from an Author.  I will share another post about it later on, but in the meantime thank you Roy, I am looking forward to reading it.

This morning I'm back in the game and on the top 10,000 my Amazon Reviewer list is at 9,386 (<).  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

My Daily Selection for Kindle Free Download at Amazon

*NEW AUTHOR

Kindle Store> Books > Fiction > Fantasy > Epic
Indie Writer (Self-published)

After an epic fail of a day yesterday, doing housework and thwacking my hand so hard on the work surface that I'm truly lucky not to have broken the thing ... although OMG it hurts to type!, then having to hang around until 1'ish in the morning to collect Lou from her school trip to watch The Tempest at the Globe Theatre (apparently it was awesome  ..... I never managed to find the time to post a daily selection.

The last daily selection was all about covers, but you can't exactly accuse me of making today's choice like that .... black, white and boring.  However, from the 2 reviews that I've read on this one it might prove to far from that.  By a young Indie Writer, so I'm really excited to see how it pans out.

You can find it quickly over at Amazon by clicking the large title just above the cover photograph, or click HERE.  As always, please bean mind that I have no guarantee how long they will stay available for free download, so if you are reading this post retrospectively, you may well have to pay for it - I will review it as soon as possible and report back on it's merits.

This morning I'm back in the game and on the top 10,000 my Amazon Reviewer list at 9,331 (>).  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

My Daily Selection for Freebie Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fantasy > Science Fiction > Adventure > Epic

I always say in posts that you can never guarantee how long a Freebie Kindle Download will be around at Amazon, but even I was surprised yesterday.

After I posted my selection first thing in the morning, we headed off for a half hour drive to the in-laws, when we got there over coffee I was telling my Mother-in-Law about the selection I had made.  We clicked the link to the Amazon site, and the listing was no longer free!

I was therefore nervous this morning that today's selection I'd decided upon last night might not be available for freebie download by the time I got around to posting this morning.  Luckily it was, as it has had quite a few good reviews, and I fancy reading it.

As usual you can find it quickly over at Amazon by clicking the large title just above the cover photograph, or click HERE

This morning that my Amazon Reviewer status has improved by a large margin  to 12,234 (making big gains is getting harder the further up the rankings I go).  As always thank you to anyone that has taken the time to leave positive feedback over there for me, it is very much appreciated..

I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.
