Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download

New Atlantis Bundle (Books 1 to 3) - Nhys Glover

Now for something completely different for today's selection as a freebie Amazon Kindle download as a link at the top of this post, or by clicking HERE.

It is 165,000 words across the 3 books and is classified as Fiction > Romance > Futuristic/Fantasy/Ghost.  I wouldn't say it was my usual reading, but as it gives a lot of bang for absolutely no buck, and I'm trying to explore new genres I decided to feature it.  A review won't we forthcoming for a long time as I have so much reading material at the moment (most of it freebie downloads too), and I would be interested to know if anyone finds this one - or indeed any - of my selections worthwhile.

At the hospital yesterday Guy was asked to take part in a survey, and the lady doing it saw my Kindle and asked if I use it a lot (as apparently she does), we got chatting and she didn't know about freebies on Kindle .... so that's another convert to the blog!

My Amazon Reviewer status has risen a little bit to 33,395.  I would love to improve upon this though .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

#309 (#27 of 2013) - The Earl's Inconvenient Wife ~ Ruth Ann Nordin

Description:

Nathaniel Buford, Earl of Roderick, doesn't want a wife, but his brother died, passing on the title of earl to him. Now he is bound by duty to get an heir. Unfortunately, to get the heir, he must find a wife. As luck would have it, he gets caught in a scandalous situation not of his doing, and the next thing he knows, he's married...and to a lady whose family is reported to desire money above all else.

Miss Claire Lowell wanted to get married. But she never intended to marry a gentleman who felt trapped into it, and she certainly never thought her family would have a hand in the scandal that forced Lord Roderick's hand in marriage. Can love find a way to thrive under such conditions or will her father's eagerness to see her married off to an earl condemn her to a loveless marriage?

This was one of my Amazon Freebie Kindle Downloads from the other day, but I've just gone to update this post after reading it and I noticed that it's now listed as 77p.  Just shows you have to be quick sometimes to bag these free downloads.

It's not too long - 232 pages.

* * * *

Summary:

I had thought that I'd read this before, and after reading it ... I was right, I have read it before.

No matter it whiled away a morning spent in a Hosptial waiting room effectively.  It wasn't all that bad, especially as I bagged it as a Kindle Freebie download.  Although, it's currently listed at 77p.

Would I pay that for it .... the answer is probably yes I would, as it is 232 pages of undemanding writing by this author, with a little humour added in.  Other offerings by her I have in the past picked holes in, but this was average and contained some of the usual "Americanisms".

Additionally, I would very much like to find out if Perry finds a wife ... he deserves one I feel.

I always feel with Ms Nordin that if only she went just that bit further her books could be very, very good indeed.  They just lack a little something .... I don't think I can easily define exactly what that would be though.  Possibly if she developed the humorous, and added a little bit of meat to the plot (thus making her books a bit longer) that could do it.

As far as rating is concerned, I would say it was a 3.5 really, but as Amazon don't do half stars, I will go for a 3 stars.

#308 (#26 of 2013) - Ambersley (Lords of London) ~ Amy Atwell *NEW AUTHOR

When Derek Vaughan inherits the dukedom. his dubious parentage makes it a sacrilege to accept. But touched by the ravaged estate and its destitute staff, he braves a society that once shunned him while he rebuilds Ambersley and guards it from his stepmother's bankrupting clutches. He intends to grant the title to his half-brother when the boy comes of age, but Derek's plans go awry from the moment the gardener's apprentice--once his trusted young friend--is revealed to be not only an heiress of beauty and spirit, but the one woman who may finally capture his heart.

Product Details:

351 pages.

I managed to bag this as a Freebie Kindle Download, but at the time of writing this post it is listed as 49p .... any way you look at that it's still a bargain.

* * * *

Summary:

A somewhat implausible story, but none the less I found it enjoyable.

Why? ... really could you just loose a Duke's Daughter just like that, even with the fire, and could you then just not notice that a boy the same age rocked up with the thinnest of stories?

It was another freebie, but at still only being offered at 49p it is a bargain in any language.

It was a decent paced plot, with likeable characters, although I did become a bit frustrated with the whole pity-fest from Derek towards the end.

I awarded 4 stars on Amazon as they don't do halves, but really it was a 3.5 read inadd details here

Daily Freebie Amazon Kindle Download Selection

The Earl's Inconvenient Wife ~ Ruth Ann Nordin

Actually, this one has been available as a freebie since before Christmas, so I thought it would be today's suggestion for the Amazon Kindle Freebie Download.

I've just started reading it myself, and have a vague recollection that I've read it/partially read it before, but what the heck, I haven't done a review on it.  As I can't remember the plot I'm going to push ahead this morning as I have some spare time and read it anyway.

The link to the download at Amazon is at the top of this post, of to save you the trouble of scrolling up click HERE.

More cherished than gold are the Jewels of Kinfairlie, and only the worthiest may fight for their love...The Laird of Kinfairlie has unmarried sisters, each a gem in her own right. And he has no choice but to see them all wed in haste.

Lady Madeline’s heart is not for sale...especially not to a notorious outlaw like Rhys FitzHenry. A more dutiful maiden might cede to the Laird’s command and meekly accept her fate, but Madeline has never been obedient. She decides to run away, though she never dreams that Rhys will pursue her. She does not expect this taciturn man to woo her with fanciful stories, much less that each of his enthralling tales will reveal a scar upon his shielded soul. She never imagines that a man like Rhys could imperil her own heart while revealing so little of his own feelings. When Rhys’s past threatens his future, Madeline takes a leap of faith. She dares to believe him innocent
— and risks her own life to pursue a passion more priceless than the rarest gem.

This is another one that I managed to get as a Freebie Kindle Download before Christmas.

At the time of writing this post, it is currently showing as £2.99 (but has in fact been priced at a much higher price than that in the past).

400 pages long.

* * * *

Summary:

Well, this was yet another freebie Kindle Download that worked really rather well.

I was out of my comfort zone a little as this was based earlier than my usual Georgian era.

There was also the surprising addition of a little fairy jiggery-pokery written in.

I found it to be very lyrically written, and even the inclusion of the fairy seemed to work.  In fact, I would love to have heard more of the mischief she could unleash.

The characters were believable and worth investing in, and I look forward to adding the others in the series to my wish list, and would even be prepared to pay for them.

This is not a book that I would have felt cheated if I'd actually paid good money for it rather than gathering it into my reading fold as a freebie, and it earner it's 4 stars well.

Product Details:

I got this as a Kindle freebie download, but at the time of posting this it is available at £2.98.

Gresham Chronicles Part 1

* * * *

Summary:

Oh goodness me, yet another Christian book downloaded by mistake.  I must have been on completely the wrong section of the Kindle Store, as this is the second one in a row.

That having been said, bearing in mind that I got this as a freebie, I really wouldn't let the price of £2.98 put you off in any way, this was such a well written tale, with lovable and textural characters.

The pace of the plot was neither too fast nor too slow, in fact it perfectly paced to enjoy the experience as the plot unveiled layers of love, hope and faith.  There are also little sub-plots left to be pondered upon.

I wouldn't hesitate to award 5 stars, and am actively going to seek out more by this author.  She has written a whole series based around Gresham as well as other stories.

Daily Free Download from Kindle

Here is the offering for today of a freebie Kindle download from Amazon.

I've just had a quick look at the reviews, and it looks to be ok ..... but apparently, you need to suspend your link with reality to really engage with this book - the category is shown as Romance>Historical..  From the reviews, I am not completely sure that classification is correct, as it seems to be some kind mystical/fairy based piece of fiction.

In any event, it's another freebie, so why not give it a go, I've just downloaded it.

Product Details:

I got this as a freebie Kindle download, and at the time of writing this post it is still available free.

320 pages long.

* * * *

Summary:

I should point out that I mistakenly went for this one as I'd thought that it was an Historical Romance, and in point of fact it turns out to be classified as Fiction, Christian - although it is Historical.

It is not something I would have willingly gone for, and whilst apart from the odd spelling/grammatical and typographical error there was nothing wrong with it ... I found it to be way too slow.  Actually, the Christian content is minimal, and I wouldn't let that put you off.

The plot was thin on the ground, and the characters lacked depth.

At best I could say it was a gentle read that was undemanding, just a shade of dull ... however, I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was quite as bad that it tended towards as "dull as ditchwater".  Really the only exciting thing that happened throughout was a renegade chicken!

With reference to the clearly dangerous and vicious chicken ... I did find it quite unbelievable that given it was an Historical novel in a somewhat rural location, it seemed to hold the entire household and visiting contingent in awed fear.  On a personal note, I have a phobia of birds, but even I can manage to deal with one small chicken without fear for my well being.

A 2 star rating.  It looks like this is a Trilogy, and the pace of the book would suggest that it would take that long for the vague idea of a romance for the main character, Emma, to get past the other person (Zachary) just existing in the the same locale.

I don't think I will bother to read the rest of the Trilogy, purely because there was too little going on for my taste.

#304 (#22 of 2013) - Freedom: The Rake & The Recluse Part 1) ~ Jenn LeBlanc *NEW AUTHOR

Description:

Francine Larrabee woke up on the wrong side of the century. She was fairly certain she went to sleep in her own comfy bed, but she doesn't quite seem to be there now. Only adding to her problems is that she has no voice, is constantly being glowered at by a large, stunning man who is obsessed with propriety, and she is apparently betrothed to another horrid little man, determined to ruin her, and any other girls that get in his way.

How does she find herself in the past, when she couldn't even find herself in her present? How does a self sufficient businesswoman survive in a time when women were still considered property for the whole of their lives and what is she going to do with this man who draws her to him so fiercely.

Product Details:

This is PART ONE of a SIX PART SERIAL NOVEL. They have to be read in order to get the story. If you have already read THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE: this is completely re edited with new scenes. However, if you do not want to re-read, you can pick up the story at PART FIVE.

146 pages in length.

I picked this up as a Kindle freebie some time ago, and at the time of writing this post it is still being offered as free.

* * * *

Summary:

Once I managed to get my head around the novel concept of an historical/time travel romance novel, I really enjoyed this first part.  I have to say it didn't take me too long, as the writing was on the whole well done.

A superb hero, on the black side actually, whom I am sure I'm going to love as the serialisation continues.

On the downside, I feel it is a little expensive.  I managed to snag the 1st book in the series as a free download, but others are around £1.20 each, it is quite an expensive undertaking.  I would recommend that you go for the Redux version if you are going to read this, which is currently listed at £2.50.

Actually, I could kick myself as I just downloaded the second in the serialisation, and I could have saved myself a fair bit by working that out first.

No hesitation in awarding this 5 stars.

Brothels full of prostitutes who call themselves seamstresses;

Two sewing machines;

One real seamstress who desperately needs a husband--of convenience
And one man who will do anything to win her love...even make a dangerous deal with Seattle's most notorious madam.

Product Summary:

Obtained as a freebie on Kindle, but at the time of posting this review it is priced a 77p.

299 pages long

* * *

Summary:

It has the makings of a classic tale, with epic storytelling and believable characters, that you just fall in love with or hate in equal measure depending on their bent.

I always find the quality of the writing can be judged on the ability of the author to turn the characters of the written page in to living, breathing people that you can actually invest in and worry about how it will turn out for them.

This author managed to do exactly that, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you read this 5 star gem for your reading delectation.  Personally, I can't wait to read other stuff she has produced, and won't mind paying for them!

Product Description:

* * * *

Summary:

3 star read, all round average read, that I wouldn't have chosen.

If the others in the series came up as freebies at some point I would buy them to see how the lesser characters' got on in their own stories.
