My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Romance > Historical Romance
Indie Writer (Self-published)

Currently Number 16 within the above category, this Novella looks interesting, plus my other draw .... it has a lovely cover.

According to the description the plot runs thus:

William Archwood, heir to an earldom and affianced to a woman he can't stand, needs to disappear before his betrothal becomes a marriage.

Grainne Spencer, the unladylike daughter of a Master of Hounds on an Irish estate, has been running her father's stables to her own liking for years, and she isn't about to give that up.

But when a certain Mr. Archer is employed by her father to take her place when she is married, Miss Spencer decides to take her fate into her own hands. Suspecting her imminent removal from the stable-yard to the drawing room, Grainne plots with an amorous gypsy to escape the constraints of society for good... if she can just slip from under the prying eyes of that nosey Mr. Archer.

Amongst the green pastures and fine blood-horses of Ireland, Mr. Archer and Miss Spencer must fight against the fates others have planned for them -- and the undeniable attraction that has sparked between them.

No reviews yet for another Indie Writer.  I've downloaded it this morning (as with all my freebie selections) and it's joined the growing list of titles on my Kindle until I get to it. You can find it available as a free download HERE .

On Amazon today my rating remained has dropped to 6,749 (<) - although I should not really complain as overall I am heading in the right direction.  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

Oh now this is an unusual concept:

Queen Guinevere has everything a woman could want: youth, beauty, and power. Her marriage to King Arthur makes her the envy of all, but something is lacking in her life.

In a test of the Round Table, she finds what she is missing—a knight willing to face trials of combat and humiliation for her safety—and her pleasure.

This contemporary retelling of a medieval tale takes the reader into the dark recesses of a woman’s need for dominance and a man’s need to suffer for his woman’s satisfaction.

Violence and danger rule their medieval world. Passion consumes their lives. Blood, chains, and the sword’s edge ignite and fuel their love forever.

As usual, the only way to judge is to try it, and so I've downloaded it this morning (as with all my freebie selections) and it will sit waiting patiently on my Kindle until I get to it. You can find it available as a free download HERE .

#346 - Secrets of Midnight

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Historical > Romance
Publisher:  Walker Publishing

Regency Men on Their Dreams Series:  Book 1

Description:

Banished to the English countryside in order to run the family mines and settle down with a sensible wife, playboy Lord Donovan Trent is amazed when Corisande Easton arrives to confront him about mistreating his workers.

Product Details:

I snapped this one up as a free Kindle download back in February 2013, at the time of writing this post it is still available for free HERE.

* * * * *

Summary:

Corrie was a fabulous and feisty virago of a Heroine, well written and giving the Mine Captain and the Duke's agent hell.  Capable also of superb organisation being a stand in Mother for her siblings and running a smuggling ring.  If I could be anyone Heroine it would be her.

Donnovan on the other hand was not quite the Alpha Male Hero, he seemed a bit on the wishy washy side for me.  He wasn't quite believable enough, and I am pretty sure that his name (just in my own humble opinion) didn't help - more that of an Irish Villager than the Son of a Duke.

Apart from that the plot moved along at a nice pace, and I loved the little jeopardy twist towards the end.  I particularly enjoyed the agent's near brush with death at the hands of Corrie and her pitchfork.

Rating:

Miriam Minger is definitely on my to read list for the future with this 4 Star read.  I'm looking forward to finding out how Corrie's friend, Lindsey, gets on finding her own dark and dangerous mate.

Notes on errors:

Surprisingly few that I noticed.

62% "Rose Red Seat" - shouldn't that be seal?

92% "V6ronique" rather than Veronique.

Considering the quality of some ebooks, that's an astounding high quality product that has been produce.  Kudos to Ms Minger.

Demonic possession today ..... oh yes, I thought let's keep it cheerful!.......

Only fanatics and lunatics believe demons can possess human beings. Or at least, that’s what Callie White thought until one possessed her best friend. Now, wanted for murdering the thing that crawled into her friend’s body and dealing with hungers and powers she doesn’t understand, Callie White just wants to die. She just has to make sure no one can bring another demon over before she goes. When that proves more difficult than expected, Callie is pushed to her limits and discovers just how common demon possession really is.

According to the book description Violet is the most beautiful woman in the world. However, as she lives in Los Angeles and is not an actress/model/waitress, this fact has largely gone unnoticed. Unnoticed by humans, that is. Unbeknownst to her, Violet’s life has been manipulated by lustful gods and vengeful goddesses to such an extent that she has been disbarred as a psychologist and now works as an assistant at Olympic Studios, where the studio bosses don't merely think they're gods...they actually are gods.

It's Number 26 in the above category and was featured in the Hot New Releases.  I was intrigued with the description, plus the cover is cute, so I thought we would give this a whirl.  I feel vampire coming on tomorrow though, so be warned.

The only way to judge is to try it, and so I've downloaded it this morning (as with all my freebie selections) and it will sit waiting patiently on my Kindle until I get to it. You can find it available as a free download HERE .

I changed my mind from last night (a woman's prerogative , and went with this one instead.  It's listed as Number 1 in Religious Fiction and #109 in Free List.  With over 200 reviews, and reading between the lines, you'll either love this Mills & Boon'esque romance or hate it, don't be put off by it's classification above though as there is a witch craft element in there.

The only way to judge is to try it, and so I've downloaded it this morning (as with all my freebie selections) and it will sit waiting patiently on my Kindle until I get to it. You can find it available as a free download HERE .

#345 - Dreamer of Destiny ~ Barbara Woster *NEW AUTHOR

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Historical > Romance
Indie Writer (Self-published)

Description:

An epic journey, which will test a young woman's will to survive and lead her into the arms of destiny.

Product Details:

I managed to pick this up as a freebie Kindle download in February 2013, however it is currently listed at £6.63 or free to Kindle Prime Members (even at £6.63 it's worth buying) HERE.

* * * * *

Summary:

I was really pleasantly surprised with this one.  It was a freebie Kindle download from way back in February 2013 (see my blog:  http://toodlesbookclub.blogspot.co.uk for details of personal challenge to find and read as many free downloads as possible in 2013).

I don't think under normal circumstances I would have gone near this kind of book ..... just shows though that trying something new does quite often pay off.

It was really very well written.  There were the odd few typographical and grammatical errors (mostly the norm with ebooks, but I still continue to bang on about it).

The plot moved at a nice pace, with believable characterisation, with lots of little sprinkles of humour.

In fact I loved Christina, and the whole internal dialogue she had going on.  That girl was definitely one tough cookie.

It did leave me wanting more, and this author is now on my list of "good story tellers".

Highly recommended, and probably a 4 star read on Amazon/Good Reads (not quite there for 5), and 4.5 on the blog.

Be brave and give it a go.

Notes of errors:

81% "drug her" - dragged her surely?
86% "despite my uncle" - despise?
90% "Howling Wolf" - shouldn't that be Baying Wolf?
91% "I can't really what it was ..." - missed word: say perhaps?
99% "old and infirmed" - infirm?

Published by Sibling Press

It's all about the covers' obviously with me ..... I can't stress just how important a good cover image is in drawing in somebody to your literary work!

For today, I decided to mix it up a bit with this beautifully illustrated work of Children's Fiction.  I think it's a debut novel by Alan Skinner, and according to the review published with the description "it's perfect for Children, Teenagers and Adults too".

You can find it available as a free download HERE.

Having done the most urgent washing, cleaning and dog walking duties required of me today, I'm going to snuggle down in the conservatory with the Russell the Dog, listen to the radio and read.  I'm about 56% through one of my earlier Daily Selections for February, Dreamer of Destiny by Barbara Woster (it's free to Prime Members' at the moment, but listed at £6.63 for regular download).

#344 - The Movement of Stars ~ Amy Brill *NEW AUTHOR

Amazon > Books > Fiction > Historical > Romance
Publisher: Penguin

I was sent this book last week some time, and all I can say is thank you.

It is probably something that I would have never discovered under my own steam, but I am grateful that we found each other.

It's brilliantly and poetically written, with great attention to detail.

The pace of plot is gentle and meandering, but just adds to the overall enjoyment.

Wonderfully written characters, apparently Hannah is based on a the life of Maria Mitchell, and her friend Isaac Martin was pure invention.

A story of hope, love and industriousness, which was hindered by religion and prejudice. Not exactly a happy ending, but beautiful none the less - it's not always possible to get the "happy ever after" if it means giving up something along the way.

Highly recommend you give this one a go, a 5+ Star read.

You can find it at Amazon as either a paperback or Kindle version HERE.

It's not often that you would hear the word "Love" anywhere near the Ripper Story, so this seems like an interesting concept for a book by these two new author's (to me) Lance Tubold & Richard Devin.  I'm not always convinced that men can write love in quite the same way as women, therefore it's going to be an interesting fictional journey when I get around to this one.

So far it has had about 5 reviews, which all seem positive.  You can find it available as a free download HERE.

On the one hand today was dreadful, but also despite the fact that we were saying goodbye to my Father-in-Law there were moments to celebrate .... our Daughter was one of them, at age 15 she was superb with the way she wrote and delivered the speech on behalf of the Grandchildren with such aplomb.  There is no doubt with that kind of presence she'll end up being a magnificent actress.

By way of a bit of light relief, I've reverted to type and chosen a lovely New Release historical romance as today's selection.
